Also: the effort that one puts into a tumblr post is directly inverse to its popularity on the platform.

Where is this on the Tumblr Ten Commandments, number 2?

“I really wish that anyone, anywhere, would stop reading a girl’s desire for physical activity or pleasure in the abilities her own body gives her as a sign of potential incipient gayness. Girls who like playing sports are just as likely to grow up loving other women as the girls who cheer them from the sidelines, or the girls who are off in an art studio or a college newspaper office. Sexuality and gender performance are not the same thing.” —‘Brave’s Merida, and Why We Need to Stop Equating Gender Performance and Sexual Orientation | ThinkProgress

“Part of McAvoy’s opening rant includes how America used to be a great country in the 50s and 60s and 70s, in part because TV journalists — “Great Men” — would just tell you the truth about what was happening in the world. I am trying to get through this relatively quickly, but let me just observe: When the only human beings you consider worthy of value are heterosexual white men, then yeah, it’s hella easy to get nostalgic for the 1950s. The rest of us sometimes struggle with that perspective.” —

Acme Thoughts Incorporated: The Crowdfunding 30% Rule → michaelwolf.us

michaelwolf:

While execs for the big platforms would never say there’s a guaranteed road to crowdfunding success, most would probably agree there are patterns to success that show you can at least get yourself into the car and onto the freeway en route to your goal.

I’ve been chatting with a few of these…

Some smart thoughts on crowdsourcing for your Tuesday morning.

Dear FX,

lizlet:

If you were to put season 2 of Louie on Netflix, I would watch it quickly over the next two weeks (I missed it last year, because I still hadn’t caught up on season 1 when it premiered). And then I would dive into season 3 of Louie when it premieres on June 28th. And then you would have at least one more viewer, which I imagine you’re in favor of. Right?

I know you have a few episodes available on your site, but c’mon. The whole season. Available now. C’mon. Please.

Love,
Liz

Dear FX,

Hey, thanks a bunch! Appreciate it mucho.

Love,
Liz

I'm just sayin' -- if you skip Ferengi episodes after DS9S02, you miss the one where Iggy Pop plays a Vorta. This is unconscionable.

Okay, you make a fair point. I just want to spare people from things like “Profit and Lace.” THE NEEDS OF THE MANY OUTWEIGH THE NEEDS OF THE ONE.

“-Don’t skip anything that takes place on Earth.
-You can ignore any episode about Ferengis after season 2.
-Episodes on the Defiant are usually pretty important.
-Unless you really like Klingons, Klingon episodes are skippable after season 5.
-Gul Dukat always shows up for a good reason.”
—

Somebody asked if I’d done a skip it/watch it guide for the rest of DS9. This was the best I could do on short notice. (via lizlet)

HOW DARE YOU SHUN THE MAGNIFICENT FERENGI! YOU’RE NOT MY SISTER ANYMORE!

(via millere2773)

This is like the third time my brother has de-sibling-ed me in the last week. If you’re wondering.
